My Story
You have to start somewhere
I set up my first business at 17 while at college. In short, buying reject pizzas from a local factory and selling them to hungry students. Not groundbreaking by any means, but it taught me a huge amount about business. Growth at this stage meant buying a chest freezer, delivery bike and eventually a van. More importantly, this little pizza business gave me the knowledge and confidence to develop my next idea.
Competing with Filofax
At 19, I designed and manufactured a range of products to compete with the global brand ‘Filofax’ (for those at the age to remember them). My first order (from WH-Smith) was manufactured in my bedroom in Tring, Hertfordshire, and the business quickly grew big enough to win several innovation & business awards. Within 18 months the range sold through many major UK and European retailers, including Liberty’s and Selfridges, as well as being used as commercial folders and gifts by brands like Mercedes Benz and Shell Oil. I sold the business at 23.
Growing companies
Over the last 30+ years, I’ve started, grown and turned around several businesses. From the seed of an idea to an office of 35 people and from a small company of 20 people to 400 with offices all over the world. Always with a focus on client relationships, growth and developing teams of people that work well together. Yes, I've had some success but along the way, I've absolutely learnt the most from my many expensive mistakes.
Coaching & Mentoring
For the last 18 years, I've been business coaching and mentoring. Realising this was my absolute passion, in 2015 I decided to do this full-time. From SME business owners to senior executives in some of the world's largest brands. The people I work with usually know that learning never stops & to reach their optimum performance they need to be challenged. Most spend large parts of their day/week managing people & teams as well as doing their primary job. They understand the importance of company culture, team morale and individual performance but often struggle and find it hard to implement change when things aren't going so well.
And that's where I come in... I ask the questions many won't and yes I’m straight-talking, however, I am hugely positive, always constructive & make it my mission to really understand each individual so that I can significantly improve their performance.
